John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) Unreels as a horror rewrite of Nicholas Ray's 'Bigger Than Life,' as Beal's addiction to his serum turns him into not just a literal monster but a monstrous father... David N Seen this at the movies in 1957 when 10 years old! Always will be considered my No 1 Vampire movie of all times. There are some great suspense moments in the movie and the music score helps to define them. You would have to be 10 yrs old and see this at the movies to understand why!! I have the movie and it's also offered up on some streaming services for free. Fast paced, B/W, catch it when you can!! DN Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Kenneth Tobey Is The Number One! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Of course, this is absolute rubbish. Implausible, ludicrous, unoriginal. But it's also great fun, mainly because the acting is quite good and the vampire make-up is so hilariously dreadful that you long for the doctor protagonist (Beal) to succumb again. Pinching bits from The Wolf Man, Jekyll and Hyde and Cat People, this is drive-in schlock of the highest ordure. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothing too interesting here. There are good story elements but eventually it just turns to be another generic man-monster on the loose movie. Campy at times, but hardly memorable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the Mexican film but the American one (both films were made in 1957); nothing spectacular here, but some nice scares. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The description as of the writing of this review is completely wrong and does not tell the plot of this film at all, meaning it is for the wrong movie. This movie is a really stupid ripoff of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. I mean, it's almost exactly the same thing. The ending is like every other film of the last 30 years around the time of this film, slasher mystery, find guy, kill him, end of movie. That's it. Plain Jane. And that's where this film lacks all creativity. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
