Martin Unsworth Starburst The film boasts some neat twists, tight direction from Paul Wendkos (The Mephisto Waltz), and is atmospherically photographed. Dec 27, 2023 Full Review Eric Melin Scene-Stealers.com An underrated and overlooked gem, The Burglar is a very stylized film for a B movie. Wendkos uses striking camera angles and far-out set pieces to frame what is essentially a psychological story about family loyalty. Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 23, 2012 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... as sweaty and tawdry as they come, a pulp crime thriller set in the seedy lower depths of low-rent crooks and raw passions. Feb 19, 2012 Full Review Cherryl Dawson and Leigh Ann Palone TheMovieChicks.com Not the perfect crime, but not a bad movie. Audience Member I was surprised at how much I really, really enjoyed this movie. Dan Duryea is outstanding, as is Jayne Mansfield in a rare dramatic role. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Different kind of a role for Dan Duryea; more introspective than the showy crime guys he generally plays. Here he is an older, conflicted low-level crook who is trying to look out for a half-sister. Jayne Mansfield plays the sister. The acting between Duryea and Mansfield is over-the-top and needed more restraint... visually this film is super. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review deke p DAN DURYEA (!) & beautiful JAYNE MANSFIELD (one could live to be 73 and never have seen a Jayne Mansfield movie) are excellent in this intriguing plot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Just watching a young Jane Mansfield is enough to recommend this movie but Dan Duryea does a nice turn here, playing the usual unsavory character. Peter Capell's character is played with manic sincerity. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The typical heist gone wrong set-up is a helluva lot of fun with a young Jayne Mansfield and a buncha desperate characters after an emerald necklace, building to a nice climax in a funhouse. Recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member An underrated and overlooked gem, The Burglar is a very stylized film for a B movie. Wendkos uses striking camera angles and far-out set pieces to frame what is essentially a psychological story about family loyalty. good noir from the second noir cycle Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
