Wendy Michener Maclean's Magazine Its naïveté would have been perfectly acceptable in 1935, say, or even in 1948 when so many of the popular French-Canadian serials were filmed, but it's very hard to accept as a product of Canadian film-making in 1966. Ravenswood R Highly entertaining, sappy, dated, and not so great that it is obviously misogynistic, which was the way the world was, much worse, for 10,000 years and continues today. That aside it is an absorbing, terrific, simple tale with genuinely great acting and some really gripping scenes. The central characters are whole and seem real, if not a bit simplified. No pretensions here, just telling the story in a very lyrical and cinematic way. They don't make them like this anymore. Great scenes of danger, fun and adventure when they was made for the big screen were so powerful, and they are on display big time here. This kind of film making can still can be enjoyed in our small screen world, but this would have been a much bigger blast in a theater. Prehistoric humans were in the cave too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow paced yet engrossing drama. Oliver Reed shows he can fake an accent AND act at the same time, a prime pre-requisite of a Marlon Brando actor.
