Critics Consensus

It's pleasing to the eye, but Saawariya struggles to fill its runtime with a story whose clichés unfortunately outnumber its points of interest.

Mukerji’s brief but stellar role as a sex worker – there’s so much to take away from the film. Bhansali hasn’t ventured that far out into the unforgiving cold since then, but if he does, this will be both his reference point as well as his warning sign. Go to Full Review

Sumit M Jul 11 It's Bhanshali's one of the best masterpiece but the audience of that time could not understand his creativity. Regular... Not only does it feel brilliant to be in this audaciously fascinating fantasia of the old-school love, but it's rendered and charmingly lived-in soul is just the thought good we want to be served. The movie released way ahead of its time and just memerizes me now. I loved it and I think you will too if you take another perspective. See more 09/12/2019 Artistic, emotional, soulful, captivating and yet bored at sometimes nevertheless a good example of its kind. See more Ahmed M 06/05/2016 Just boring, not entertaining or at the least fun. Other than all of that, which could've been in the movie, you get a two hour movie made on a set, which doesn't help at all and just ruins the movie further. See more Frances H 05/12/2016 An updated Bollywood version of Irving Berlin or Gene Kelly musicals, done with beautiful sets, talented singers and great dancing. Fun film that one cannot take too seriously. See more Read all reviews
