j f Best big screen adaptation of Eugene O'Neill I've seen. Greta Garbo is amazing and perfectly cast. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Louisa E I got a bit bored with the story, to be honest. It took a long time for anything to happen. My biggest bugbear was Anna's instant infatuation with Matt after he basically assaulted her. It makes me so mad. Nope – not my kind of story at all. I wanted the acting to be good. I especially wanted Garbo's role to be powerful, but I felt it was the physical overacting of the silent film. The chemistry between Garbo and Bickford felt non-existent. However, I did like George F. Marion and Marie Dressler's performances, even if they were a little bit over the top. I would have rated the movie even lower if it wasn't for them. There was nothing special about how the movie was filmed, and it didn't have much to say. Did it deserve the Oscar Nom-Noms? - For best actress, no. Garbo performed better in Romance. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/23 Full Review Audience Member This was Greta Garbo's first sound film. Her famous first line was, "Gimme a whisky, ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy baby!" Garbo was even more interesting through being heard than she was in silent movies. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Tom M Garbo is great ... the rest is quite dull. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/21 Full Review Audience Member Such an amazing movie from one of the early Golden Age greats. The movie delivers an extremely satisfying dramatic story of a person trying to change their life, but their past continues to haunt them. It's a gem of a movie from 1930 and holds up amazingly well. Garbo is simply outstanding. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Lenta, se destaca Greta Garbo. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Yasser Medina Cinefilia Listening to Garbo speak for the first time is perhaps the only thing that is interesting to me, because not even her voice is enough to raise the dramatic tone of a trivial narrative about alcoholism and prostitution. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Jul 23, 2022 Full Review Nathanael Hood Unseen Films A flat, inert affair. Rated: 5/10 May 16, 2020 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Garbo received her first Oscar nomination for this second version of the play, which MGM advertised as Garbo Talks! Her first line of dialogue is memorable: Gimme a viskey, Ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy babee. Rated: B+ Mar 20, 2009 Full Review Tim Dirks Filmsite Anna Christie (1930) was advertised, in a two-word ad campaign: "Garbo Talks!" - in "Her First TALKING Picture" (and 14th film) for cinema's greatest silent star - an asexual, super-cool Nordic beauty named Greta Garbo.
