CodyZamboni Way too talky, American version of Hammer style horror, has too many dull stretches. The added, lame, unnecessary William Castle-like promo of the horror horn and fear flasher, fizzle. The odd, out of place 1960s hairdos in 1890s Baltimore, add to the camp factor. On the plus side, movie has a truly menacing villain, genuinely scary wax figures, grisly murder wax tableaus. lots of beautiful women, and a cameo by Tony Curtis. Learning that this was a failed TV pilot, explains alot. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review steve d Wasn't that effective even for its time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review dave s Despite some pretty decent production values and some solid performances from the cast, Chamber of Horrors fails to live up to its own hype. Before the film even starts, the audience is warned of the horrors to follow and advised to pay close attention to the ‘horror horn' and the ‘fear flasher' that will precede particularly grisly scenes, giving the viewer the opportunity to look away before being scarred for life. In this story of murder and revenge, there is nothing even remotely frightening and there is a total absence of gore, leaving the audience wondering what the purpose of the distracting ‘fear flasher' was in the first place. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Largely forgotten mid 60's gem features a memorable turn by Patrick O'Neal as an insane killer. Stylish and colorful. A shame it wasn't made into a television series as originally intended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review bill t Fun gimmick movie known for :"The Horror Horn" and the "Fear Flasher" over anything else. If it didn't have that, i'd give it the same rating. This wax museum murder mystery certainly isn't original, but well acted, with some scary bits. Even those are rather tsme, even though the horror horn warns us otherwise. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member When he comes after my head he'll have to risk his own. In Baltimore a strange wax museum has been formed that tracks notorious serial killers throughout history. A convicted criminal sentenced to hanging escapes by cutting his hand off and jumping off a train. Shortly thereafter a rash of killings spring up all over town. Business picks up for the wax museum as they begin creating new displays in honor of the new serial killer. "It takes time for a crawling caterpillar to become a true butterfly." Hy Averback, director of Where the Boys are '84, Venice Medical, She's in the Army Now, The Night Rider, House Calls, and The Love Boat II, delivers Chamber of Horror. The storyline for this picture is very similar to House of Wax mixed with The Tingler. The good and evil characters were interesting and well delivered and the cast delivered solid performances. The cast includes Patrick O'Neal, Suzy Parker, Cesare Danova, and Wilfrid Hybe-White. "Lovely girl. Where did you find her?" "In the fog." This movie recently aired on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and I loved the idea of a one armed serial killer. The movie was okay with some 60s gimmicky cheese sprinkled in. I did find this film entertaining and definitely worth watching. This is classic 60s horror that fans of the old school Vincent Price pictures may enjoy. "A taste for sewers is what I call it."
