Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Take away the creeping sense of supernatural dread, and what remains is a low-key tale of a mourning family, made more tender by the broken stoicism of the survivors. Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com This is an underappreciated, underseen gem. Rated: A Oct 16, 2019 Full Review Russell Edwards Variety Ghostly shenanigans are dryly delivered in the ambitious, restrained and well-mounted Oz mockumentary "Lake Mungo." Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh A singular vision of terror that undeservedly gets lumped in with forgettable found footage movies, despite how much more it has to offer in both narrative and cinematic craft. Rated: 4/5 Sep 9, 2025 Full Review Paul Lê Bloody Disgusting Chills go from a whisper to a scream over the course of this unique film, and its residual sadness takes it to the next level. Rated: 5/5 Mar 21, 2025 Full Review Chris Ward Flickering Myth Lake Mungo draws you in with convincing performances, an authentic true crime documentary format and some creepy, suggestive imagery - it is just a shame that it doesn't maintain the strong macabre atmosphere until the very end Jun 18, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Donovan H This movie is called a “slow burn” by some. This movie goes exactly nowhere though. The pacing is horrid. The development is poor. And the payoff at the end? What payoff?!? This has to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. Don’t believe the hype. It’s not good. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/06/25 Full Review Matthew D Lake Mungo was a complete waste of time. The found footage was some of the worst quality I have ever seen. No idea how anyone gives this 5 stars. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review James B Lake Mungo is one of the best films I have because it's terrifying and has a great story to tell. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Sophie P. sadly, i failed to experience the depth that so many others feel watching this movie. what do we truly know about Alice, and is the point meant to be the sad truth of the answer: “nothing”? it’s unsettling to be sure, but not the resonant portrait of grief it’s made out to be… Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/14/25 Full Review Spike D It's rare to find a film that so deftly combines hair-raising chills with depth of feeling and technical ability. Lake Mungo will stick with me for a long time, perhaps longer than I'd like. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Les N They always looked like actors.
