Darren Mullet (Calvin Dean) doesn't have it easy. He's overweight, uses an inhaler and is constantly bullied by his spoiled classmates. His suicide prompts Bradley (Alex Pettyfer), Darren's main tormentor, to host a wild party, where Justine (Tuppence Middleton) hooks up with Alexis (Dimitri Leonidas). With her entry into the school's popular group cemented, Justine figures life will be easy. But when Bradley and Alexis's friends start turning up dead, everyone starts to panic.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It relies too heavily on American slasher cliches, but Tormented is a timely, funny, and even somewhat touching entry in the high school horror genre.

Jon Wright's film delivers its shocks as efficiently as the average American equivalent. Its British jokiness makes it less scary than it perhaps could have been, but it gains more from this trade-off than it loses. Go to Full Review

It's diverting, occasionally moving, and has two secret weapons, teen heart-throb Alex Pettyfer and newcomer Tuppence Middleton. Go to Full Review

Solid storytelling, attractive cast and modish updates are let down by a lack of scares and jokes. IMHO not gr8, don't xpkt to LOL. Go to Full Review

Glafira Regina O @Glafira_Regina Jul 2 The film is downright boring: no humour, no horror. There are no unexpected twists, the plot is cliché, and the special effects look like something out of a Numberjacks. A third-rate production with so-so actors. See more Thom G 03/26/2024 Tormented should have been better in all aspects: the story, the development of the story (if there is one?), the characters, the acting, the realism, the moral (the main point is understood from the beginning, uncontentious, and is not developed)... It's frustrating and boring. See more 08/09/2017 Some of the most genuinely satisfying horror violence I've seen in recent memory. And I feel pretty morally justified in my satisfaction.
