Stanley Kauffmann The New Republic The Australian outback, the setting for most of Last Ride, an extraordinary film for which the locale is a quiet, almost secret catalyst. Aug 8, 2012 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post Both Weaving and the movie itself do manage to show that this violent, hopelessly damaged man yearns to be a father, but will never know how. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 6, 2012 Full Review Manohla Dargis New York Times Mr. Ivin doesn't have a strong narrative line to play with or become distracted by, but he takes off on some lovely detours, whether he's narrowing in on Chook or going wide to take in the world that waits beyond. Rated: 3/5 Jul 5, 2012 Full Review Eric Melin Scene-Stealers.com Weaving carries the film in a rare lead role as a father who loves his son but has criminal tendencies that get the best of him. Tom Russell is subtle and effective as the boy who has to grow up fast. Rated: 3/4 Oct 21, 2012 Full Review Jeff Beck Examiner.com There were some clear issues with the story and characters that really needed to be addressed well before the cameras started rolling, but unfortunately director Glendyn Ivin and screenwriter Mac Gudgeon didn't do so. Rated: 2/4 Sep 14, 2012 Full Review Jeremy Heilman MovieMartyr.com While the basic premise of the film is something of a clich, the execution is nuanced and the two lead performances are never less than convincing. Audience Member Una historia sobre el amor de un padre por su hijo. Excelente actuaciones de Hugo y del niño Tom Russel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Full review at: LAST RIDE http://jfilmreview.blogspot.com/2014/09/last-ride.html Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Great cinematography and production design, but the story barely kept my interest and I kept looking at my watch. The pace is a bit too glacial and the characters too abstract. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Cant really say a whole lot happened with this one: dads a dick, son could turn out to be a dick.......annnddddd scene. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely mesmerizing. A brilliant film :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Well made, tense father & son on the lam film, set in contemporary Australia's outback.
