Steve D Chan is fun, nothing else is. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/23 Full Review Jimmy P This is the first film that Chan made in America and you can see his "brand" shining pretty brightly. Had he been able to make the film he wanted to make, and not the one that Robert "I directed Enter the Dragon" Clouse wanted. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member While not at level of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong films from the same period, it is far superior to his breakthrough film with Western audiences, 'Rumble in the Bronx'. Here the master is at the height of his physical powers and the action is typically inventive, slapstick and well choreographed. The uneven use of period realism is confusing, to say the least - at one point mobsters out of 'Once Upon a Time in America' crash a roller derby battle in a factory?! - but Chan's dynamic vitality transcends the cartoon settings. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review uncle p Summary: (3/5) The cast was good, but the story was middling and the film felt longer than I would have liked. A thumbs down. Story/Screenplay: (3/5) A less refined version of Jackie Chan's later films, it's a decent rehash of the comedic kung fu genre, done for the American audience. Alas, there are too many better options to watch if kung fu is your thing. This story fails to set itself apart. Duration/Tempo: (3/5) At 1 hour and 35 minutes, it's a short movie that felt average in length. There's a lot of repetitious fighting that all seems to blend together and make the film feel longer than it is. Cast & Crew: (3.5/5) Jackie Chan was excellent. Nice supporting cast, including Jose Ferrer, Mako, and Chao Li Chi. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The American fighters in the movie are just silly, though back then it was what people expected to see. However, Chan lights up the screen whenever he is on camera. He has such amazing screen presence, and even his watered down action is amazing compared to the americans. Numerous scenes make this worth watching on a slow afternoon.
