      D. N I may be judging this too harshly, but it really is such a departure from Cross of Iron. This is one of those films where you can clearly see that Richard Burton is doing the least he can do for a paycheck. Not one of the other named actors seems to have any drive to do their best, and it clearly shows. Yes, these were all aged actors, definitely not at the height of their careers, but damn, they are also all great actors and I expect more from someone with their caliber. Add to that a smaller budget (at least it seems way cheaper) and a convoluted and contrived plot, with often lousy dialogue, and you get a sequel that isn't even worth the title of the German release, because it literally has the same title with an added "2." And while "Cross of Iron" might not be Peckinpah's best, it is a film that doesn't deserve to be connected to this travesty. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/22 Full Review Classic and typical of 70s war movies ,but holds its own in better company, Battle of the bulge, bridge to far kinda feel, Burton as usual is iconic ,although not sure if he wanted it ,,similar to how he felt about ,where eagles dare maybe .. Great movie though. But rotten tomatoes states its the sequel to, Cross of iron ?, because the lead protagonist is also called steiner ? Cross of irons steiner died though ... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/22 Full Review laurie s Where Eagles Dare it ain't but it's enjoyable enough. In more capable directing hands it could have been better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review dave j Wednesday, May 21, 2014 (1979) Breakthrough WAR Footnote: Saw this movie as "Breakthrough" and not as "Steiner - Das eiserne Kreuz" as mentioned on RT, and that the film was released in 1979 not in 1978. Intended to be a sequel to "Cross Of Iron" showcasing the point of view from the Nazis starring Richard Burton as Nazi Sgt. Rolf Steiner making a deal with American Sgt. Rogers (Robert Mitchum) to execute Adolf Hitler for full pardons of small group of people, since the Nazis were going to lose the war anyway. Directed by Andrew V. McLaglen of many low budget John Wayne movies during his later days, is handling a small European production, and it shows too. Also starring is Curd Jürgens as Nazi Gen. Hofmann, and Rod Steiger as American Gen. Webster. 2 out of 4 stars Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member una vez más, segundas partes nunca fueron buenas Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Cross of Iron II.
