A woman's vast inheritance makes her the target of a mysterious killer. Based on a 1922 play which was also filmed in 1939 with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard, the story contains all the ingredients of the classic "old dark house" mystery - a creepy mansion, will readings, rainy nights, and a murderous madman.

Eddie Harrison film-authority.com Metzger handles his cast reasonably well, with Edward Fox in particular unfettered by any sense of restraint in the most barking performance of an otherwise distinguished career. Steve D Ok but unremarkable version. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review justin t This is a preposterous film. Olivia Hussey looked stunning although this alone does not make a film. I found it rather stupid, too slow and uneventful. Basically it is a thriller set in the thirties. It is not very thrilling. It is not violent. The secret passages around the house are cool. Best avoided really. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review bill t Yet another slogthrough. All 3 movies aren't worth any of your time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It was worth it to see Olivia Hussey. The story started off well with a will and a bunch of eager would-be heirs. The introduction of the film within a film as a means of having dinner with a dead rich relative was great, but didn't really pay off. Nothing much paid off. There's a bunch of business about a necklace, then they all just forget about it and decide to get very talky with conversations that are basically "I really, really, really, really fancy you. Do you fancy me?". Then characters just sort of fall off the radar, rather than get knocked off in any interesting way (what happened to Harry? Or the old lady?) The scariest thing is the makeup and lighting, which is god-awful. Those poor actresses must have run to get chemical peels after screening this. The director was originally from the porn industry, which explains some of his artistic choices. Like why he tries to pass 70's polyester nightmares as 1930's elegance. Inexplicable and boring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent cast, good score, unintentional laughs, intriguing plot but average (at best) everywhere else. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Fifth film version of the old war horse. Better than the reviews would have you believe.
