Martha DuBose Sydney Morning Herald If one ignores the pompous script and its allegorical pretensions, Convoy is not bad entertainment. The stunt-work is excellent and the action sequences excitingly staged. Nov 21, 2023 Full Review Pauline Kael The New Yorker It’s a happy-go-lucky ode to the truckers on the roads, a sunny, enjoyable picture. Sep 18, 2023 Full Review Kim Newman Empire Magazine A noisy but enjoyable destruction derby of a film. Rated: 3/5 May 12, 2017 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com Convoy is Vanishing Point with trucks, a nihilistic journey into the world of American individualism with a jaunty soundtrack. It’s a bad film, but it’s also an addictively watchable one… Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2022 Full Review Armond White National Review It’s a feel-good movie about American camaraderie going up against injustice and abusive, overreacting tyranny. Feb 17, 2022 Full Review Bernard Drew Gannett News Service There is the ghost of something here and if the film had had the courage of its convictions, it might have been something else, but as it stands now, it is simply an action movie but a pretty fair one. Blu B The soundtrack is good especially the chessy but catchy title track. Nothing else is as memorable as that though but well used. Everything else isn't half bad but considering the director it's somewhat of a dissappointment. This can't decide if it wants to be a counter culture movie with serious commentary about truckers or a Fast & Furious movie with 18 wheelers and the result is a mix of both. The first half is the better film but the second is more entertaining but just gets ridiuclous. There basically superheroes with trucks. The girl has no character, the other truckers really don't have anything that seperates them, and it feels like the plot just throws stuff at you that get more and more farfetched. The action scenes are good though and pretty cool but this just starts to get completely mindless and exploitative with trucks basically. It felt like it wanted to be a counter culture road movie kind of but just completely changes in the second half. If your a big fan of vehicle flicks like the Fast & Furious or a big fan of any actors in this maybe check this out. But most could skip this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Cees T Watch Killdozer for more deserving terrorism, Repo Chick for more comedy, and Road House (1989) for both. 1/10 - Terrible. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Audience Member As a film of the 70's (remember all those Villains v Cops trucks and car chase films and shows?) akin to Cannonball Run, Smokey and The Bandit, Movin' On, BJ and The Bear and so on - heck even Bond got in on the act - it's a pretty good film and a bit deeper than the rest. Racial prejudice, political agendas and so on were there although not explored too deeply after all it was more a light entertainment / comedy film. For anyone who's a fan of trucks, was a CB radio enthusiast or just enjoys a good old chase movie it has all you could want. It's very much a film of the 70's for people who were alive then but that's no bad thing - the stunts are all real and thankfully so are the people unlike the fake plastic heroes of films today. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review ROBS T I first saw this when it released at the cinema, It was an awesome film then and still is to this day, I don't expect the younger ones to think the same due to the times we now live in. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Ravenswood R The script, story, and acting are very spotty and shaky. Almost completely inane and nonsensical. When some aspect begins to make a tiny bit of plausible sense, a couple minutes later something happens which plunges it back into total nonsense. The whole thing seems like the product of writers and a director who are all coming down from a long haul drug binge. The actors struggle, or simply do a poor job throughout. Some bizarre psychedelic scenes of ghostly trucks with weird music saved this from being 100% terrible, so it is only 90% terrible. Fun to watch visually at times, all other aspects are abysmally bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review hugh g great movie. it has a few dramatic moments but other than that it is packed with action. it has lots of explosions and high speed chases.
