What to Know

Critics Consensus

Day of the Dead may arguably be the least haunting entry in George A. Romero's undead trilogy, but it will give audiences' plenty to chew on with its shocking gore and scathing view of society.

The movie represents Romero's very best writing, with unusually strong characters for a gore picture. Go to Full Review

"Day of the Dead" is plenty gross, but there's nothing scary about it. Go to Full Review

Largely missing is the primal horror of the first film and the sharp satire of the second, yet what remains isn’t bad at all. Go to Full Review

Nicholas T Oct 30 Tom Savini’s practical SFX at their best, with a super strong female lead rivaling the greats like Ripley Scott, and a villain whose humanity is not unlike some political leaders we all know. Day Of The Dead is both the most human of the trilogy, while also the most monstrous. See more Mania I. @TheMania510 Oct 23 A great character study and very good cinematography highlight this third installment of George Romero's zombie saga. Not quite as good as Dawn of the Dead but it has its moments. A must watch for Romero fans, 80s horror and zombie apocalypse pictures. See more Daniel D Oct 17 The master of the undead pulls out all the stops and creates what might be the best piece of “zombie” media. The characters are fascinating, the make-up and gore effects are incredible, and the story feels unconventional within the zombie sub genre in a very refreshing way. See more Jason H Aug 24 The makeup effects are excellent, but the script and acting are mediocre. In other words, A George Romero Film.
