jayne v A must see movie…especially for women coming of age in this decade. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Exceptional in all areas given the time period of the film and book. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Men totally dominated the world in the 1930s and women would never be considered equals. Through this film, you see all the hopes and dreams of the women crushed by men in various ways. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Is this a good movie? No. But it certainly is an entertaining soap opera, filled with hysterics and overwrought melodrama. I almost want to give this five stars. Hard to believe that the same director would later make 'Dog Day Afternoon.' Oh, it's worth watching just to see a young Jessica Walter (Lucille Bluth on Arrested Development). Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member if u like 'payton place' you'll love this soapy melodrama Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member sidney lumet directs great performances from all his actors, particularly shirley knight, elizabeth hartman, jessica walters, and joanna pettet. while "the group" might be longer than it needs to be, with storylines that easily could have been cut, it's still a well made film that is as interesting at the end as it was at the begining. Pauline Kael McCall's When the [film] slows down for the sequences involving just a couple of people, something very touching and almost beautiful happens. For those moments — and there are several of them — The Group is more interesting than almost any recent American movie. Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Leo Ebreo (Leo Skir) The Ladder The film presents not only a more realistic but a more sympathetic portrait of a lesbian. Many thanks indeed to to skillful Candice Bergen for her tender, human interpretation of Lakey. Jun 29, 2021 Full Review Jesús Fernández Santos El Pais (Spain) Sidney Lumet's film is a rushed whirlwind offered to us in an unimaginative way. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Wendy Michener Maclean's Magazine This all-female society emerges simply as sinister; Lumet never shows why the expectations of these women are so tragically unfulfilled. Either he just doesn't understand or else The Group is one big put-down of women's colleges. Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl By modern standards, however, the persistently shocking aspect of this film is the horrid treatment of most of the female characters by a remarkable proportion of the male characters...
