Candice Bergen
With deep wells of talent, Candice Bergen was able to earn an Emmy for her outstanding work in television. In 1958, she appeared with her father on Groucho Marx's quiz show "You Bet Your Life" (NBC) as Candy Bergen. She hosted the talk show "Exhale" for the Oxygen network. In 1967, she made adult TV episodic debut, "Coronet Blue" (CBS). In 1968, she wrote play, "The Freezer" (included in "Best Short Plays of 1968"). Bergen kickstarted her acting career in various films such as the Steve McQueen action picture "The Sand Pebbles" (1966). Bergen won an Outstanding Lead Actress In Comedy Series Primetime Emmy Award for "Murphy Brown" in 1989 as well as a Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy Or Musical Golden Globe Award for "Murphy Brown" in 1989. Bergen was nominated for a New Star Of The Year - Actress Golden Globe Award in 1967. She kept working in film throughout the eighties and the nineties, starring in "Who Is Henry Jaglom?" (1995) and the documentary "Belly Talkers" (1996) with Edgar Bergen. She also contributed to a variety of television specials, including "Time Warner Presents the Earth Day Special" (ABC, 1990) and "CBS Comedy Bloopers II" (CBS, 1990-91). Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in the Sandra Bullock hit action film "Miss Congeniality" (2000), the Reese Witherspoon smash hit comedy "Sweet Home Alabama" (2002) and "View From the Top" (2003). She also appeared in the romantic comedy "Home Again" (2017) with Reese Witherspoon. She also lent her distinctive voice to "Family Guy" (Fox, 1999-). Bergen most recently acted in the Adam Sandler dramedy "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)" (2017). Bergen was married to Louis Malle and had one child.
