Bri A This movie absolutely sucked. I’d rather watch paint dry. The acting was terrible, the story was worse, and the dad is just a yapper who shows little to no expressiveness. Why people think he’s a good actor is beyond me. I sincerely advise anyone not to watch this movie and to save themselves two hours of life. He's one of my favorite directors still working and this film was no exception. This was a really great film that I really enjoyed. The entire cast does an amazing job, especially Sandler. And though I've seen many films with similar premises, this film's characters are complex and interesting which makes this feel fresh. But what always keeps me coming back the Baumbach pictures is his dialogue. He is great at writing riveting conversations that always keep me entertained in the most mundane of scenes. This film isn't the most funny, but it does work very well as a drama. And the short films with the film were hilarious. The Meyerowitz Stories isn't anything groundbreaking, but it's a very entertaining film with great characters and that signature Baumbach charm. Some viewers may find it challenging to connect with the characters and their involvement in New York’s contemporary art scene, but the family dynamics at the heart of the story feel relatable and authentic. Though the writing is strong, the dialogue-heavy, upper-middle-class family drama format might not appeal to everyone, especially with its slower, setup-focused first hour. However, it’s a well-crafted piece, even if it doesn’t break new ground. The tone and style reminded me a lot of a Woody Allen film, so fans of his work would likely find this an enjoyable watch.
