Janet Maslin New York Times Scares are not its strong suit, but it has a trim, bright look and better performances than might be expected. May 20, 2003 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Captures a very specific vibe of horror-comedies from the '80s, but a number of other entries into that realm are both funnier and more frightening than this. Rated: 2/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Silly and illogical, the film holds a certain nostalgic charm. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 12, 2020 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore Even if it can never decide what it wants to be, House is a fun, weird, and creepy '80s romp. Rated: 3.5/5 May 7, 2019 Full Review Ryan Pollard Starburst As a film, House is still as much of a warm, at times bonkers, family-friendly horror as it's ever been. Rated: 8/10 Dec 14, 2017 Full Review Alex Sandell Juicy Cerebellum The movie borrows from all the right places, including Edgar Allen Poe's Tell-Tale Heart and Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. Ben D (We discuss House on ep. 146 of TRM.) A Horror-Comedy that isn’t very scary or funny (at all), House is good for two things: Roger Cobb’s (William Katt) v-neck sweater that belongs in the v-neck Hall of Fame, and the handful of cool creatures made with practical effects. The plot is nonsensical. The Vietnam flashbacks do serve a purpose at the end, but even then, there’s so little revealed to tie Big Ben’s (Richard Moll) motivations to Cobb’s hauntings that the payoff is crap. Sandywitch (Peter Pitofsky), the ghoulish form of Cobb’s wife, Sandy (Kay Lenz) is one of the bright spots of this movie. Tanya (Mary Stävin) serves no purpose and could’ve been used as a sexy, tantalizing subplot for Cobb, only to be herself turned into some nightmarish creation (or something, idk), but instead she just drops her kid off, tricking Cobb into babysitting him, and leaves? The movie isn’t fun enough to merit the cult following. House is a huge disappointment. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Jasper J I generally thought it was more of a comedy than a horror movie, still I liked it more than House 2 because of the jump scares and horror instead of a noncomedy movie, I liked the monster designs, including the closet monster he records. I liked the ending because his his dead friend in the Vietnam war trying to kill him. I liked the happy ending with his long lost found son. I rated the movie 4/5 stars and really enjoyed it and recommend it as an morning movie or late at night. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Steve D Nothing really new here but effective. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review David W Campy, slightly goofy, 80's light horror that's not going to scare anyone above 12 (or probably much younger for that matter). That said I've seen plenty worse haunted house movies and at least it's well acted for the genre. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Steven F I love this movie still as good as I remember from back in the day watching this, back then this was scary for me and now I am older still love it, what a classic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/22 Full Review Read all reviews
