Audience Member Nicely performed crime drama, all duplicitous cops and robbers, and gangsters' molls. The plotting is occasionally hard work, but you keep watching because of Cagney's comic energy and a brace of good supporting performances. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member good deep dark Cagney following up his brutal performance in 'white heat' Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty standard Cagney fare, with him playing an ex-con trying to make his way in crime after busting out of prison. That said, it was never boring, followed a reasonable plot and some parts were really quite funny. Perfectly watchable. 7.25/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Cagney's character was kinda sadistic i think Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Better than I ever thought possible! A title like this HAS to be great, and this was GREAT. Fast paced crime drama. Cagney NEVER better, as only Cagney can play it! Gordon M. Douglas (Come Fill the Cup/Only the Valiant) helms it by keeping it fast-paced, brutal and cynical, and lets star James Cagney pick up where he left off in the year earlier White Heat as an unsympathetic mad dog killer. This was an even tougher film, but the crowds didn't respond to it as favorably as they did to White Heat (which seems odd, since it's basically the same type of B-movie)." This one is more suspenseful and not as evenly paced maybe, but still a great! 40% More of a slow drama than anything else. I would've given it a lowere rating if James Cagney wasn't in it, but he can make anything worth a little more...
