Nigel Andrews Financial Times Will "True Love" triumph? The answer is not quite worth the wait, since the film becomes soggier and more sentimental as it grows older. But for Montand and Deneuve fans, at least, there is good value. Mar 7, 2023 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) Rarely have so many unpleasant adults, self-regarding teenagers and cruel children been herded together, though there is little sign that Lang is aware that he is regaling us with a almost Swiftian misanthropy. Audience Member Fun nonsensical romp with great chemistry between Deneuve and Montand; amazing how well kept Deneuve can be on a deserted island; shout out to an occasionally French speaking Tony Roberts in a supporting role Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review david f It's kind of a screwball 70s French comedy about a runaway bride who hides on an island with a perfume-maker who is also in hiding from his past. Hilarity ensues. Hilarity and Tony Roberts, oddly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A French "comedy"... oh well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Frantically overdone French comedy. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Mostly likable comedy goes over-the-top but still makes for pleasant viewing despite silliness. The slapstick is often too much, and Deneuve isn't really suited for this type of comedy, though she certainly looks stunning and gives a capable performance. Montand fares better, and the chemistry between the two stars gives the film some playfulness. Most surprising is Tony Roberts in a supporting role as a nightclub owner whose painting-- was it a Renoir or a Toulouse-Lautrec (?) (I think it was the latter...)-- is stolen by Deneuve. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Entertaining screwball comedy, French style. The plot is thin, the comedy over-the-top, but Deneuve and Montand are an absolute joy to watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
