When Maryana marries Korostelyov (Sergei Bondarchuk), Seryozha initially mistrusts his new stepfather, but he quickly wins over the young boy with gifts and kindness. After Maryana gives birth to a new child, Seryozha becomes sick and is left with an aunt.       Synopsis Five-year-old Seryozha (Borya Barkhalov) lives with his mother, Maryana (Irina Skobtseva), in a small Russian town.
