Three cowboy movie stars from the silent era -- Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short) -- are fired when one of their movies bombs. In what seems to be a career-saving offer, young Mexican woman Carmen (Patrice Martinez) offers them a high-paying gig in her village. The three jump at the opportunity, expecting to do their typical act, but Carmen believes they are really heroes and asks them to rid her village of bad guy El Guapo (Alfonso Arau).

Critics Consensus

Three Amigos! stars a trio of gifted comedians and has an agreeably silly sense of humor, but they're often adrift in a dawdling story with too few laugh-out-loud moments.

David Stratton Sydney Morning Herald If Three Amigos is disappointing, it's because the people involved have ail done better work in the past. But it's not all bad. May 27, 2021 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune It's the laziness of the project that's finally most galling. Rated: 1/4 Apr 25, 2014 Full Review Patrick Goldstein Los Angeles Times [Three Amigos is] a goofy delight. It's like a cross between a big-budget Three Stooges movie and a Hope-Crosby road picture, with dozens of old cowpoke gags thrown in to spice up the brew. Tom L Comedy is always subjective but, for me, it may not be the funniest ever but it certainly has a lot of heart. And, also, it's funny! A great parody of The Magnificent Seven with some truly silly humour. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review McKay S A hilarious spoof on the classic western, the Three Amigos is a movie that is enjoyable for all ages! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Johannes B DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE RT SCORE OF THIS MOVIE. Don't let the critics with no sense of humor fool you. The only people that wouldn't find this hilariously funny are the same people that think Shakespeare is funny. He isn't. This is one of the funniest movies of ALL TIME. Scene after scene of gem lines. Each scene crafted to the punch line. Some of the funniest lines of any Martin or Chase movie. The story is fun, it's brilliantly acted. It's ultimate fish(es) out of water story, even the songs and music are top notch. It's packed with great cameo performances. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/24 Full Review r96 s '¡Three Amigos!' didn't quite hit for me. I was expecting to enjoy this 1986 film, if only because of the three leads - Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short. I like them from other things, admittedly I've only seen Chase once or twice but Short and, particularly, Martin are actors I appreciate. This flick, though, just didn't click into gear. I didn't find it funny at all really, some gags are way too exaggerated - almost cringey. There are a couple of minor chuckles, the standout being with the invisible swordsman. Going back to the main trio, Short is probably the one who I think did the best work here. Chase felt a bit out of place in certain scenes. Of the other cast members, Alfonso Arau and Patrice Martinez do alright. Joe Mantegna is also involved, as soon as he speaks I immediately sensed that iconic voice of Fat Tony from 'The Simpsons'. Elsewhere, I didn't even recognise Tony Plana as Jefe - even comparing images post-watch, I'm still not even convinced it's the same guy. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Nate l Better than 99 percent of stuff being put out today. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review John T. H it's very enjoyable it kind of drags in some spots but I still really enjoyed it Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
