Three cowboy movie stars from the silent era -- Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short) -- are fired when one of their movies bombs. In what seems to be a career-saving offer, young Mexican woman Carmen (Patrice Martinez) offers them a high-paying gig in her village. The three jump at the opportunity, expecting to do their typical act, but Carmen believes they are really heroes and asks them to rid her village of bad guy El Guapo (Alfonso Arau).

I am struggling to think of a worse film that I have seen. The script is flaccid, unfunny and tedious. The acting is a sorry pastiche of what the three protagonists are capable of. The direction is none existent, Landis cannot have been present at the time of filming. I never never seen poorer cinematography, had the cameras been borrowed, were half the lenses missing? The framing of every shot, every scene, the whole film is dreadful. Who dressed the set and supplied the props? Extras with no previous experience? This film was torture to watch and cannot be recommended in any way other than as an example of what not to do in making a film. How it got funded is baffling. Embarrassing dross.

Very much a product of it's time but still was great in it's own way. It's a typical 80s comedy with that silliness that can be hit or miss but this one is a fair amount of hits. The acting was fine but the writing, mainly the comedy stuff, was probably the strongest aspects with some of the one liners being absolute gold. It can be a little cringe which is normally not something I enjoy but this movie toed the line really well with one of the funnier moments I've seen in a while with the bar dance scene. I had pretty good time watching it and probably wouldn't mind watching it again at some point. Good fun
