Anjum K It is a wonderful movie, it's akin to John Ford's great works in terms of rich language & austere realism. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Nick S Absolute classic, I loved it and it engaged me away from what I was doing quite a few times. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review David C Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum..... sit back and enjoy the only Long John Silver who defined pirates... Robert Newton Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Dale R Disney's first fully live action movie is a fairly accurate retelling of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel. Robert Newton does a great job as Long John Silver and also establishes the pirate talk that we are so used to in all forms of media. Bobby Driscoll also does a good job as Jim Hawkins and the dynamic between the two is believable, which is a key to the telling of this tale. There is some Hollywooding up of the characters for modern audiences, especially Hawkins who is portrayed as a modern kid. I think that was done intentionally to allow kids of the time to put themselves in that role. Because of this I think it would be harder for kids today to do the same. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Steve D Cheesy and dated no matter its reputation. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/24/23 Full Review Jared Z A rip-roaring, swashbuckling, seaworthy adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel, anchored (pun not intended) by the performances of a bright-eyed, wet-around-the-ears Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins, and the seminal (perhaps the definitive) performance of Robert Newton as Long John Silver.
