Robert Newton Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Dale R Disney's first fully live action movie is a fairly accurate retelling of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel. Robert Newton does a great job as Long John Silver and also establishes the pirate talk that we are so used to in all forms of media. Bobby Driscoll also does a good job as Jim Hawkins and the dynamic between the two is believable, which is a key to the telling of this tale. There is some Hollywooding up of the characters for modern audiences, especially Hawkins who is portrayed as a modern kid. I think that was done intentionally to allow kids of the time to put themselves in that role. Because of this I think it would be harder for kids today to do the same.
