Audience Member Private Parts (1972) is a weird black-humor psychological LGBTQ horror of 1972 is like Psycho and Sleepaway Camp in a low budget film a true grindhouse experience. Voyeurism, seediness, a sweaty gay priest with a thing for leather and muscle boys, brutal, sudden violence and water inflatables! It is without doubt an odd little number - sleazy and creepy and bleakly, blackly humorous with a cool ending. Offering a handful of beautifully disturbing moments interspersed with gallows humor, this way, way, offbeat ode to voyeurism and desire remains surprisingly accessible due to Andrew Davis's immersive cinematography and a strangely magnetic turn by Ayn Ruymen. Perhaps the greatest gift Bartel's twisted genius offers audiences is to celebrate our outcasts and fetishes as perfectly ordinary parts of society.
