When the family of George Newton (Charles Grodin) decides to adopt a cute St. Bernard puppy, the patriarch soon feels displaced by the dog. Before long, the adorable canine, dubbed Beethoven, has grown considerably, leading to household mishaps. While George's wife and kids dote on Beethoven, it takes time for him to see the pooch's finer qualities. However, Beethoven's life with the Newton family is jeopardized when a scheming vet (Dean Jones) tries to nab the dog for a deadly experiment.

Fluffy and incorrigible, Beethoven is a good boy who deserves a better movie.

Betsy Sherman Boston Globe Underlying this formulaic plot is a strange tone of desperateness in the movie's smiley-faced depiction of a "perfect" suburban nuclear family... For a family that's not missing any meals, they do more whimpering than any of the animals in the movie. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 2, 2023 Full Review Hal Lipper Tampa Bay Times If you have any desire to see Charles Grodin upstaged by a slobbering St. Bernard in the formulaic comedy Beethoven, then I suggest you rent Turner and Hooch and see Tom Hanks being slimed by his large canine partner instead. Rated: 1/5 Nov 21, 2022 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant Every moment fits neatly together in an almost machined way. But the time lopes by and a few of the sequences prove oddly delightful. Apr 9, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Charlie r Was a great movie for its time, but does not live up to standards today. A movie to look back on though for shits and giggles. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Tralee V The reason why I I’m gave it 4.5 (9) out of 5 (10) is because this movie needs justice! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review Arlen S Such a great comedy with many different aspects making it amazing. Amazing, would see again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Paige M I don't care what anyone says. This movie will forever be loved! 🐶❤️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Luis c G i loved the first two Beethoven movies but when i saw the third one that's where they really messed up Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Ash P The last time I've seen this movie was when I was just a kid. Watching it again and it is as standard kids' movie gets. Some cute moments, some odd cases but I'm not really gonna nitpick too much since this is a kid's movie, after all. Even by 90's movies standards. As seeing this again, it was okay. 6/10. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
