Audiences for Pakula's latest failure to make a sexy film about sex will probably be small, however. This is not a thriller any thinking adult would eagerly consent to see. Go to Full Review

Matt L @Mattliptak Nov 4 This film opens with real promise — a tense suburban thriller that feels like it’s building toward something sharp, sinister, and psychologically gripping. Kevin Spacey and Kevin Kline bring enough charisma and presence to keep you invested early on, and there’s an engaging unease as the neighborly friendship starts tipping into dangerous territory. But unfortunately, that strong setup collapses into a downward spiral of implausible twists and questionable character decisions. What begins as a clever Hitchcock-style premise quickly veers into territory that feels forced, sloppy, and increasingly detached from reality. By the final act, the once-intriguing storyline becomes a jumble of far-fetched plot leaps — undercutting the suspense the movie initially worked so hard to build. Spacey and Kline do respectable work with what they’re given, yet even their performances can’t salvage a script that loses its nerve and intelligence as it goes. It’s a classic case of “what could have been” — a great concept that ultimately trades sophistication for sensationalism. Loved it. This could've been a good thriller if not for the disturbing and unsettling subject matter. See more 08/23/2015 Fairly average suburban thriller, you can see the twists coming. Decent time waster though. Spacey is great in it. See more Read all reviews
