A little more zip, and Hero might really have worked. It has all the ingredients for a terrific entertainment, but it lingers over the kinds of details that belong in a different kind of movie. Go to Full Review

A misconceived project, inspired by classic Hollywood films of golden age (Nothing Scared, Hail the Conquering Hero) but marred by underdeveloped and rambling script--Stephen Frears first big failure. Go to Full Review

nick s Nov 29 The movie had an interesting premise and a good twist at the end. The acting was great and the characters colorful. Some of the social commentary was a little on the nose but that was forgivable. Overall a fun and thought provoking film. Still can't figure out why a cameraman would go from f5. 6 to f11 in the middle of an action shot. See more Gareth v Sep 19 A flawed but engaging comedy-drama with a sharp premise and strong performances, elevated by Hoffman’s reluctant hero routine. See more E K Jun 21 Great movie. Dustin Hoffman and Geena Davis pur a kot of heart into their performances. See more Larry K @Larrymoses39 03/11/2024 Fun movie. I liked how it all played out in the end See more Jelisije J 02/04/2024 A nice dark comedy drama that starts of a bit slow, but gives us a memorable heart warming third act that leaves me satisfied at the end of the day. See more Petra E 01/02/2024 This movie has not received much love from critics and I don't quite understand why. Granted, its media satire is sometimes on the nose, but the story is fun and satisfying while also giving real food for thought. Dustin Hoffman absolutely shines in his role as a small-time crook who discovers his altruistic side. Also Geena Davis and especially Andy Garcia give strong performances as a news reporter and a vagrant turned fake media hero, respectively. A fun movie that is well worth watching!
