I enjoyed this, both as an homage and as a reimagining with its own spirit. My only gripe concerns the probability of artificial gravity on an ill-kept escape pod. All things considered, that's a pretty small and pretty specific gripe. It's adequately dark, substantially tense, and maybe a bit predictable, but I suppose I first saw it when I was twelve. Heinlein had a similar short story on the subject, this was an attempt to make this sort of "sci-fi without ray guns and explosions" work.
