Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The movie is slick, charming, and with moments of real wit. But there's so little to it. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a frenetic (yet decidedly erratic) endeavor... Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 2, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...a guilty pleasure for those who enjoy car chases... Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2021 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal What seems crudely jerry-rigged to be nothing more than a mindless car crash-up is instead an intelligent, incisive carving-up of media insanity and idiocy. Plus, throughout the movie, Charlie Sheen showcases stealthy comic chops. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 28, 2014 Full Review Michael Nordine Not Coming to a Theater Near You There's a fine line between the campy elements and those that are done more earnestly, but it's toed successfully. Oct 25, 2011 Full Review Scott Weinberg DVDTalk.com There's just enough slicks and smarts in this movie to make you wish the rest of it weren't so darn stupid. Martin D Definitely one of the most misunderstood and underrated films of all time. Sure, it's a glorified B movie in many respects, but it's also a clever and spot-on satire of so many aspects of American life. Charlie Sheen's character is a kind of American Everyman, not particularly bright or wealthy, but with a good heart. Look at the way he defends his hostage Natalie from her father with good sense and compassion for a fellow 'repressed' human being. The Christy Swanson character is the typical spoilt rich kid who could be and is so much more than just the product of uber wealthy dominating and controlling parents. The plot allows director and writer Adam Rifkin to satirise key areas of American life and society: the obsession with wealth/power, the crass sensationalism of the media where ratings are everything, the need for nutters to have their fifteen minutes of fame, the police with their gung-ho, shoot first/ask questions later mentality, and even the criminal justice system itself which allows a single rich man to control the police while an innocent man is convicted because rules and protocols are more important than the truth. Everything is about excess and overkill, imbalances and unfairness at the root of supposedly the greatest country on God's green earth. Usually, films like this are simplistic trash with highly predictable endings. This is anything but simplistic if you care to look hard enough, and the neat double ending confirms it is conceived and executed with intelligence and vision. Watch it again with your brain engaged, and you'll better understand my opening comment. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/25 Full Review Audience Member This was my first Charlie sheen film I’d ever seen. Great chemistry between sheen and Swanson , which heats up fast. Nothing wrong with a 24hr car chase and a bit of romance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Rhonda T The name is all wrong. It should be "Who's the Daddy?" I really wanted to like it. I watched all of Series 1 and about half of Series 2. I finally started fast forwarding through some of it. A complete waste. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Spot-on title, this wacky wild goose chase gives you chaos punches from start to end. Does anyone think of refueling? Maybe it's a solar EV... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I don’t know if this is a guilty pleasure cause I like this movie. It doesn’t deserve the bad reviews. Great soundtrack as well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/02/22 Full Review Read all reviews
