Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, this dramatic adventure tale follows the adventures of young Scot David Balfour (Brian McCardie). After the death of his parents, David goes to visit his scheming uncle Ebenezer (Patrick Malahide), who sells him into servitude aboard a ship bound for America. At sea, David encounters Alan Breck Stewart (Armand Assante), a nobleman who helps him return to Scotland and confront Ebenezer, who has claimed the young man's inheritance for himself.

Laura Kern Film Comment Magazine The drama remains strictly confined indoors, intensified by handheld camerawork, in-your-face close-ups, and an inspired use of split screen Nov 7, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This version of Kidnapped is the most recent and perhaps the longest yet. Filmed in Scotland, it is visually very satisfying, but the acting is insipid. While Asante brings a frantic Alan Breck (he runs everywhere, a couple marathons every day!) McCardie's David Balfour is flat, passionless. I much prefer the older, Disney version, starring James MacArthur and Peter Finch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Great story telling and adventure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The Book was better but hoo can ye say nay? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice movie about the book. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful photography, awesome acting, and love the costumes! Of course, the scottish accents are really awesome too! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member While there are a few scenes that appear to be redundant, the plot is a fascinating one. While watching you catch a glimpse of a time writhing with conflict. The dialogue is superb, and the acting sweeps you off your feet. Scottish accents rock!
