Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader Very entertaining action hokum that benefits hugely from the uses made of the three stars. Jun 14, 2022 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune There isn't a shot, scene or sequence in The Rock that doesn't move furiously, typically with colored lights flashing into our faces or onto those of the actors. Rated: 2.5/4 May 27, 2014 Full Review Doug Thomas Seattle Times You might need to take Dramamine before entering a Michael Bay movie. The one-time music-video director has an annoying habit of finding the tightest shots, editing the heck out of them and scoring the works to loud music. Rated: 2/4 May 27, 2014 Full Review Zita Short InSession Film The Rock still feels generic and lacking in any of the flourishes that distinguish hacks from legendary auteurs. Rated: D+ Feb 2, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Much of the action feels thin and inauthentic. Rated: C Sep 1, 2022 Full Review Sheila Reid Women in the Life The special effects are reason enough to check this one out. May 31, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I have no idea how anyone can not like these 90s action movies, especially with the iconic actors, set pieces, explosions, fighting, and music. Who cares if they are brainless; they're MOVIES. Not real... If you enjoy action films then this one will be a classic for you as it is for me and countless others. This one is included in the era of Faceoff, Broken Arrow, Con Air, etc. the golden age of action films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Líder7reynier Á ¿You know that this is the best movie that Michael Bay ever directed? If you already knew it you're amazing bro. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review D. M A wonderful throwback to when action movies were just action movies. Any lightness in the t-word plot is quickly filled with the charisma and chemistry of Connery and Cage. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Adam R I have to say it was a long time ago since I watched the film last time. It is astonishingly entertaining - done at a time when action movies were exactly that - uncomplicated and entertaining action movies. Sean Connery, Ed Harris and NIcolas Cage deliver entirely, Probably the best thing about the film however are the shots (great cinematography) and the music - in my view its one of the best sounds tracks ever (and excellent for working out). Absolutely can recommend it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Joseph C When you break it down and think about it for a minute or so, this movie is one of the great action movies of the era. It has the big stars-Sean Connery, Nic Cage and Ed Harris. It has a good supporting cast-Micheal Biehn, William Forsythe, and many more. Hollywood really brought it's big guns for this movie and it shows. The action is imploding, the stunts are explosive and the plot is just mindblowing. The Rock is known as Alcatraz and this is the perfect popcorn flick on a summer afternoon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/24 Full Review Dan R All Star cast, great action sequences, thoroughly enjoyed.
