What to Know

Critics Consensus

Disney's take on the Victor Hugo classic is dramatically uneven, but its strong visuals, dark themes, and message of tolerance make for a more-sophisticated-than-average children's film.

Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal You're quickly won over by the movie's subversive wit, swept along by its narrative bravado and its enormous visual energy. This new "Hunchback" is a triumph on its own terms, and on any other terms that might come to mind. The entire film, however, fails to land with a distracted and ineffective voice. Jan 15, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof 615 Film This is the darkest “G” movie of all time! Audience Member Those damn gargoyles preventing me from giving this movie 5 stars! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review TROY S The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the best Disney animated feature since Beauty and the Beast--a whirling, uplifting, thrilling story with a heart-touching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Anthony C I’ve started watching “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” more recently since 2020 when I started using Disney+, & I totally understand why it’s not the most popular Disney movie ever. However, as someone who grew up in a Christian household, I will give “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” credit for being the only Disney movie to tackle the dark side of religion in the most serious manner the way they did back in 1996.
