I didn't find it very funny, but then I didn't find Black Sheep or The Cable Guy very funny, either, so maybe the problem is with me or, more likely, maybe all three films need to be sealed into capsules and shot into space. Go to Full Review

Claudio C Oct 21 Les visiteurs (1993) A Very Funny French Adventure (12,005 – 21 Oct 2025– by Claudio Carvalho) In 1123, a witch cast a spell and Count of Montmirail (Jean Reno) has hallucinations and accidentally kills his future father-in-law. The bride-to-be (Valérie Lemercier) calls off the wedding and the Count and his squire, Jacquouille la Fripouille (Christian Clavier) visits an old wizard, who proposes him to return in time and avoid the accident. But the elder magician makes a mistake in the magic potion and the Count and his squire travel to 1993. When he arrives, the police believe he is insane and summon his descendant, Frénégonde de Pouille (Valérie Lemercier), who believes he is his missing cousin with amnesia. Meanwhile, Jacquouille meets the homeless Ginette (Marie-Anne Chazel) and learns that submission is no longer acceptable in 1993. “Les visiteurs”, a.k.a. ”The Visitors (1993), is a very funny French adventure with Christian Clavier stealing the show. The confusions made by the two travelers in time and Ginette are hilarious, In 2001, Jean-Marie Poiré remade this film in English language with the title “Just Visiting” and Jean Reno, Christina Applegate and Christian Clavier, which is also very funny. He is catapulted into the modern day with his Baldrick like squire. It is a situation ripe for slapstick comedy. The American remake is also worth considering if you prefer something more family friendly. See more 12/09/2018 A classic. This terrific French farce uses the same "fish out of water" conceit as the much-loved 70s TV series 'Catweazle', but to far better effect. Reno and Clavier (who co-wrote the screenplay) play their roles as medieval Frenchman stranded in the 20th century to the hilt, and Clavier is terrifically funny as the awful, coarse and terminally stupid Baldrick-esque squire. This makes no pretence at sophistication but it has a heart of gold, gags galore, and marvellous performances, and very unusually the English language remake with Clavier and Reno reprising the lead roles is an unexpected delight, and highly recommended if you dont want to grapple with subtitles. A very funny film that should be much better known outside the Frwnch-speaking world. See more 09/01/2018 This is a great movie! See more Read all reviews
