Critics Consensus

George of the Jungle is faithful to its source material -- which, unfortunately, makes it a less-than-compelling feature film.

Jace E This movie is just full to the brim with nostalgia for me. I showed it to my kids and could not stop laughing. From the 4th wall breaks to the hilarious plot explanations from the narrator, there is plenty of humor to go around. Not only that, but this movie has a lot of heart. Brendan Fraser is wonderful and his chemistry with Leslie Mann is palpable. There is a purity to George's character and the entire film that make it endlessly rewatchable. The villains are villainous, the heroes are heroic and I left the movie smiling from ear to ear. Best Character: George Best Quote: "George just lucky I guess" - George Best Scene: Dancing in the Jungle Best Song: Dela Note: I need George's shoes from his cross-country run. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Blu B You know it's brainless, stupid, and not even close to being "Good" but it's never boring, incoherent, or bizarre. The main issue here is while everything is suprisingly ok about it, it's the fact that this plot feels like more of a plot for a one hour animated pilot episode of a Saturday Morning cartoon or a direct to TV release. With that said I think it's a small miracle it's as "Passable" as it is mainly because it has lots of charm, energy, and fun to it. It's totally aware how stupid it is and rolls with it with some surisingly funny jokes every now and than. Make no mistake this 75% of the time super cheesy humor that falls flat or gets a eye roll and for little kids but it does get a tounge in cheek clever laugh every now and than. The charm is really what is suprising here with some decent fun chemistry between the two leads. However, besides the fact there really isn't much to work with here for a major movie plot. This needed some more serious moments to get some tension and emotional moment which really are lacking. It doesn't have to be Lion King type stuff but think something like Homeward Bound. With that said things do pop in this and it never drags. If your nostaglic for this, than knock yourself out orif your a BIG Fraiser fan. Otherwise there isn't much else here. This really for little kids and even than there is way better stuff from this time and in general. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
