Critics Consensus

George of the Jungle is faithful to its source material -- which, unfortunately, makes it a less-than-compelling feature film.

Not quite inspired lunacy, the film has a game, likable quality and strong sequel potential. Go to Full Review

George of the Jungle is still an all-around fun time with plenty of laughs after a quarter of a century. Go to Full Review

See more Jace E @thefilmguy 09/16/2024 This movie is just full to the brim with nostalgia for me. I showed it to my kids and could not stop laughing. From the 4th wall breaks to the hilarious plot explanations from the narrator, there is plenty of humor to go around. Not only that, but this movie has a lot of heart. Brendan Fraser is wonderful and his chemistry with Leslie Mann is palpable. There is a purity to George's character and the entire film that make it endlessly rewatchable. The villains are villainous, the heroes are heroic and I left the movie smiling from ear to ear. Best Character: George Best Quote: "George just lucky I guess" - George Best Scene: Dancing in the Jungle Best Song: Dela Note: I need George's shoes from his cross-country run. See more Peter B 06/05/2024 It's possible I don't understand what this movie is about See more Jason R 04/20/2024 A quirky version of Tarzan, renamed George, not as bad as the rating and reviews imply, its still worth watching See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 01/06/2024 George of the Jungle is a goofy and charming ‘90s comedy that fully embraces its own silliness. The movie leans into an over-the-top spoof style, giving it that classic era vibe where nothing is meant to be taken seriously, and that’s exactly why it works. Brendan Fraser is the highlight, delivering a fun, energetic performance that makes George surprisingly lovable. The film never tries to be deep; instead, it focuses on jokes, physical comedy, and ridiculous moments that keep it entertaining. Its simplicity is part of the fun because it never pretends to be anything more than a silly parody. The narration, the visual gags, and the cartoon-like tone all add to the experience. While it’s cheesy and definitely not a masterpiece, it has a charm that makes it enjoyable to watch. For what it sets out to do, it succeeds and remains a fun blast of nostalgic comedy.
