A group of thieves pulls off a major robbery at an art museum. Finely tuned plans go awry, however, when one of the robbers, Crane (Forest Whitaker), is killed. Following Crane's death, anger and paranoia get the best of the criminals, and instigators Chino (John Leguizamo) and Hobbs (David Caruso) butt heads with fellow crook Pike (Ving Rhames). The fleeing gang then makes the mistake of picking up attractive hitchhiker Natalie (Linda Fiorentino), a con artist who has her eyes on their loot.
