Lesya has committed a crime of passion which brings her a seven-year sentence in one of Odessa's women's correctional facilities. She has just given birth to her first child, and now she is entering a world populated only by women: inmates, nurses and wardens, women of all ages, wives and widows, daughters, sisters, pregnant women, and women with children too. If not for the color of the uniform, it would sometimes be hard to tell who is who.

Guy Lodge Variety An unusual and rewarding docufiction feature woven from the firsthand stories of multiple Odessa prisoners, executed with a blend of close-to-the-bone realism and heightened formal refinement. Dec 14, 2021 Full Review Anna Smith Deadline Hollywood Daily Kiryazeva's expressive face brings moments of gentle comedy, but the overall tone is that of a serious observational docudrama, fascinating in parts and slow in others. Nov 30, 2021 Full Review Lovia Gyarkye The Hollywood Reporter With no clear sense of why these women are drawn to each other or insight into what keeps them connected, it's difficult to feel fully invested in this experimental film's poignant thesis. Sep 3, 2021 Full Review Vassilis Kroustallis Film Is A Fine Affair It has an empathetic and humane eye to all of its characters, as a tender family member embraces their children. Rated: 75/100 Oct 23, 2022 Full Review Nikki Baughan Screen International Although fascinating, and certainly moving, its blend of fictional elements with interviews with actual inmates never fully gels... Dec 1, 2021 Full Review Nathaniel Rogers The Film Experience A 'tough' movie doesn't have to be hard to watch. 107 Mothers isn't 'easy' in its characters or themes, but it's a surprisingly gripping watch, even entertaining.
