A boring genre film and a waste of a good set.

Andrew Y The poor reviews of this film are hard to fathom. It's of it's time sure, but it's still decent entertainment. Great cast and sets, I've seen many, many worse of this genre and I'm not a fan of sci-Fi. There's no way this is worse than ‘hitman' or any Schwarzenegger film for example. I think the lead does a great job playing a mentally broken soldier/robot. So, my advice would be, if you're looking for a film you don't have to think about, like sci-fi , because sometimes we just want something frivolous and not cerebral, not to listen to the stuffed shirt responses here and give it a go. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Carl M I thought it was a good movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Dino B I've watched it for the Blade Runner connection and found it to be worst than a B movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Ian B Soldier is criminally underrated. I don't understand why the rating is trash on Rotten Tomatoes. Just goes to show you that you can't trust critics! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Alec B Slightly better than it's reputation. A straightforward Sci-Fi western with a decent premise. The barely noticeable references to "Blade Runner" are a nice touch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Jon Z One of the best sci fi Action Films in the last 30 years. It is a movie that plays it straight but send a powerful message. This is a masterpiece. It does not surprise me the score is low. A true cult classic, an absolutely amazing movie I have gone back to watch through the decades. As I age I understand it better. Susan Stark Detroit News Rated: 2/4 Mar 10, 2007 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader This appealing formulaic action adventure (1998) displays a lot of conviction in its not-too-flashy action scenes and a little levity in the gradual socialization of Russell's character. Mar 7, 2007 Full Review Bruce Westbrook Houston Chronicle The action is handled fairly well, but it's routine, and there's no satisfaction in seeing Todd waste men who are no more bloodthirsty than he is. Jul 21, 2005 Full Review Niall Browne Movies in Focus Soldier finally deserves a reappraisal. The Kurt Russell starrer is actually a hugely entertaining and visually arresting piece of science fiction cinema – at the centre of it is a bold performance from Russell – one in which he only speaks 104 words. Rated: 4/5 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison …while humour is sorely lacking in Soldier, the brutalist sci-fi tone holds throughout, and it’s easy to get behind Todd’s stubborn unwillingness to be thrown out with the trash… Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Russell is quite suitable for a Terminator-like role, where dialogue is at an absolute minimum, physical intimidation is relevant, and action sequences are numerous.
