Soldier finally deserves a reappraisal. The Kurt Russell starrer is actually a hugely entertaining and visually arresting piece of science fiction cinema – at the centre of it is a bold performance from Russell – one in which he only speaks 104 words.

This is far below mediocre. Russel‘s mimics are bound to be emotionless, but they are way TOO emotionless. Even Arnold‘s T800 is vivid compared to this „acting“. Everything else is too cheaply crafted and too poorly written for its time. Only Nielsen and Isaacs shed some light on this stinker.

The first time I saw it was when it first came out, I thought 3 out of 5 stars. I just re watched it again in 2025 and really enjoyed it. Maybe becoming a real soldier after I saw it the first time made me appreciate it more the second time.

Watch it multiple time and still love it. It's the epitome of 90's scifi action flick. Kurt Russel kicking ass in space with probably less word than the Terminator, but it still kicking ass. Even if watching it just for Kurt Russel being there, it still worth it. Less exposition is the better, and this movie delivers so much with so few words. Kurt Russel doesn't even have to say anything, he convey every emotion resurfacing with his eyes and gesture.
