      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Critics say Committed is one of those films that shows promise -- some sort of vision -- of what the movie could have been. The key word is "could." As it is, the script is predictable, the story becomes tedious, and it's simply not funny. Heather Graham shows she can play a central character, but she's not enough to make Committed successful.

Audience Member Interesting themes explored in quirky and fun ways. Also young Mark Ruffalo is actually pretty hilarious in his role here. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Light and fun at times, it doesn't require your full attention. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The lighthearted romantic comedy Committed has Heather Graham going for it, but that's about all. Graham is incredibly charming and lights up the screen in every scene. The script however, is garbage: a devoted wife goes in search of her missing husband who's left her to work through a mid-life crisis. Though it acts like it's saying something profound about faith and relationships, it actually doesn't. Co-starring Luke Wilson, Casey Affleck, and Clea DuVall, the cast isn't all that bad; it's just that the characters are poorly written. A disappointing film that's all over the place, Committed is a confusing mess that doesn't payoff. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoy this movie. I think Graham was exceptional. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member One 'critic' at this site described Heather Graham in 'Committed' as 'thoroughly wearisome'. We must have watched a diffrernt movie... Quirky and nicely done overall, Ms. Grahams performance was a beautiful thing to watch. The entire cast was excellent or at least very good and always believable, Great photography & vivid locations - I guess if you're raised on action flicks and blockbuster ship-sinking movies, real life (or at least this fine movies version of real life) seems pretty bland. It's a thoughtful, sweet movie and easily worth watching. Netflix gave it 5 stars which is why my wife and I watched it, and we are very glad we did. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member I love movies about stalkers. ^_^ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune Neither the characters nor situations are as sympathetic or funny as writer-director Lisa Krueger seems to think. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Peter Travers Rolling Stone It's a one-joke premise that ultimately wears thin, but [Lisa] Krueger works some playful variations on a theme. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Audaciously devised by writer-director Lisa Krueger, combines a gently surreal reverence for Americana with a serious examination of cultural values. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Richard von Busack MetroActive Committed isn't [Heather] Graham's fault. If, for the first time on screen, she's charmless and annoying, it's better to pin the fault on director/writer Lisa Krueger, whose simplistic moralizing keeps Committed a dull, trying experience. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Hazel-Dawn Dumpert L.A. Weekly The best thing about Committed is [Lisa] Krueger, a filmmaker who's not only willing to lead us into the well-traveled terrain of romantic comedy, but able to show us something new there. All she asks is that we have a little faith. Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid A well-crafted, clever comedy. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 10, 2003 Full Review Read all reviews
