Brenda Blethyn stars as Grace Trevethen, whose late husband jumped out of a plane without a parachute. Grace has been left with a manor on the Cornish Coast - and the massive, suffocating mountain of debt her husband had been secretly amassing. Now, with creditors and repossessors on her heels, Grace is faced with the prospect of losing everything. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so when Grace is asked to tend an ailing, if illicit, plant she gets an outrageous idea.

Critics Consensus

The plot and basis for jokes are slight, but Saving Grace is indeed saved by some charming performances, most notably Brenda Blethyn's.

The script has been worked on to great effect so that the timing of the comedy is just right, the punchlines are delivered in all the proper places, and there is breathing space in between the bouts of increasing comic madness. Go to Full Review

In trying too hard to convince us what good eggs his characters are, Cole creates a shapeless, dramatically unengaging movie. Go to Full Review

Saving Grace has a lovely Cornish setting and Blethyn to recommend it, but mostly it's a contact mediocre. Go to Full Review

Glafira Regina O @Glafira_Regina Oct 17 “...Alcohol is legal, but marijuana isn’t... A historical misunderstanding, I think...” — the movie’s slogan. It’s worth watching, if only for the Scottish gardener who helps a widowed woman take care of her little “herbal” estate. See more My N Aug 27 Light-hearted, sometimes silly, but thoroughly entertaining story about a 'wealthy' widow (Blethyn) who discovers that her deceased husband has lost everything, including their beautiful home, in poor investments and business deals gone bad. Craig Ferguson is a surprise as a her devoted gardner and friend who forges a new kind of alliance to benefit them both. Predictable in some ways, but charming and funny. See more Alejandro E @Alex970 02/09/2024 It's not easy being green. The friendly side of marijuana in a British comedy with no other purpose than to entertain and it does it quite well, enough to easily bring out more than one smile. See more Steve D 07/01/2020 It was too dark and depressing for my taste. It's tone was confused. See more 06/02/2020 I had a right good laugh watching it really made me smile and a good story line the ending could have been a bit better but all together a great film See more 01/31/2020 Absolutely a brilliant hilarious film, the cast, writing, production is 100% brilliance. One of my all time favourites and Brenda is amazing. See more Read all reviews
