Claudio C Aug 1 Don't Drink the Water (1994) Still Hilarious After More Than Thirty Years (11,867 – 31 Jul 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) During the Cold War, behind the Iron Curtain, US Ambassador Magee (Josef Sommer) needs to travel to United States and assigns his rookie son Axel Magee (Michael J. Fox) to be responsible for the Ambassy since it is a calm period. But soon New Jersey caterer Walter Hollander (Woody Allen) requests shelter for himself, his wife Marion Hollander (Julie Kavner) and their daughter Susan Hollander (Mayim Bialik) since they have been mistakenly taken as spies when Walter to a picture of a forbidden area. While the period the family is lodged at the Ambassy, Walter created several havoc and crisis; Susan calls off her engagement with a doctor and falls for Axel; and the crazy Father Drobney (Dom DeLuise), who wants to be an amateur magician, increases the confusion. “Don't Drink the Water” (1994) is a comedy by Woody Allen still hilarious after more than thirty years. The annoying and stubborn caterer Walter has the ability to difficult the lives of his family and Ambassy staff with his laughable stupid attitudes. There is a nice romance between Michael J. Fox and Mayim Bialik. But Dom DeLuise steals the show with the role of the clumsy amateur magician Father Drobney, cutting the ties of almost everybody and showing his failed magic tricks. Allen does his neurotic father shtick where he and his family are visiting an East European country during the Cold War. While there he accidentally takes a picture of a military base and he is presumed to be a spy. The family retreats to the American embassy where the inept son of the US ambassador tries to help them get back to the US. See more Read all reviews
