Governor James Reynolds Pryce (Tom Selleck) is running for president, but he still hasn't chosen who will run with him as a vice presidential candidate. His wife (Nancy Travis), his campaign manager, Lauren (Laura Linney), the wife of one potential candidate (Faye Dunaway), and a fundraising manager (Teri Hatcher) are all trying to influence his choice. But the fact that he's been in romantic relationships with all of them is not helping him make an impartial and practical decision.

John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture Running Mates would lose in any primary that included Altman's Tanner '88 or Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing, but it's a lot more interesting than the Harvard-Yale game. Audience Member There should be a word in the English language for attempted and failed comedy. This movie certainly fits the bill. It is just plain not funny. Which is fine, but the events are never engaging and the characters are all really flat, so it doesn't work as a drama, either. It's not a romance, it's not a very good satire, it's certainly sci-fi; It's a whole lot of nothing, is what it is. It's so strange how specifically Laura Linney is typecast: the super-serious, hyper-competent political analyst/ campaign manager/ crown attorney. I think this movie was trying to poke fun at Gloria Steinem and Ralph Nader without hurting their feelings which doesn't really make sense. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member run-of-the-mill tv movie...well it may not be a tv movie but it sure seems likje one. An imaginative plot, but not the charm to match i'm afraid. Tom Selleck is a good actor, but a bit past it unfrotunately. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was on tv and I sat down to watch it only because I saw theser great actors starring in this movie. Basically this movie is about this governor who is campaigning to become The President of the United States. This movie was ok good, nothing special in particular. One thing which bothered me a bit was Tom Selleck not wearing a mustache, he looks so much better with the mustache on but on the other hand it wouldn't be suitable to have a mustache wearing president. And in this case, the scandals never surfaced...they meet in the cavernous LA bathroom to discuss, commiserate, and guzzle champagne. Tom Selleck, always great to look at & drool over.
