dave j Tuesday, November 30, 2010 (2003) Visitors THRILLER/ SUPERNATURAL Austrailian girl (Radha Mitchell) attempts to be the first girl to sail around the world comes across with unexplainable things which may or may not be real! Nothing wrong with Radha Mitchell's performance except the film has some bad dialogue and directions! The idea for this picture might've came from another boat picture released in 1989 called Dead Calm! 2 out of 4 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Of course the book is better. It is well made to make the point. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member There's an interesting movie in here somewhere, but the representations of Georgia's cabin fever/descent into madness were unoriginal and done much less well than other movies that have used the same tactic. It's unfortunate because Radha Mitchell's performance is excellent. Also, Dominic Purcell's hair is way stupid-looking in this and it takes away from his usual smoking hotness. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I was rather disappointed by this. I was expecting more, I suppose. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Effectively tense, claustrophobic psychological drama has Radha Mitchell battling her inner demons and fighting to maintain her sanity during her 3-month solo round-the-world sailing venture. Reality and hallucinations collide with her cat and periodic disembodied radio voices representing her only social contacts, that is until pirates, her mother, father, and mother's tea group each pay her a visit. Radha is terrific at chronicling her character's progressively deteriorating mental condition, finding more and more extreme ways to snap herself back to her senses. Marketed as a ghost story, this fits more into the Polanski category of unnerving filmmaking. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Radha Mitchell is wonderful in portraying a woman who is losing her mind while alone at sea. What makes this movie so eerie is not just that all these weird things are happening *to* her, but that they are happening *within* her mind and until she takes charge, there is simply no getting away from them. Here lies the (psychological) horror of the movie: her demons are not actually supernatural. I love the exploration of madness, and found this movie great overall.
