can't imagine a baseball fan%u2014or a moviegoer%u2014who wouldn't respond on some level to the new film "Sugar," a rich and moving reminder of the way professional sports aspirations can shape someone's destiny in the real world, as opposed to the mytho Go to Full Review

This tale of tortured love between a gay youth and street hustler juggles a complex load of emotional and tonal colors within an admirably lean runtime. Go to Full Review

As tasty as Sugar is, it tortures us exquisitely with the pains of first love and of losing someone to addiction. Go to Full Review

It's a real bummer this one goes from remarkably tender and trashy to spinning down the toilet bowl of hustler cliches. Go to Full Review

08/11/2018 Years before "The Florida Project" or "Tangerine", this movie knew how to make an intimate, personal story on a minuscule budget. This "day in a life" take on a gay boy falling for a hustler is quieter & more nuanced than "My Own Private Idaho", but manages to pull off the same impact. A true (although little-known) gem in gay cinema. See more 08/15/2012 A somewhat real look at the hustler/drug issues of youths. I liked it! See more 03/05/2011 I liked this movie, it had a good message or two about growing up + the actors we're hot & sadly one died in the movie ie/ don't do drugs but really sadly the main character died in real life - such a shame. Good movie, great story - well worth a look, I'll watch it again... See more 07/10/2010 Wow! Surprisingly good! Kudos to this gay film made in Toronto with cameos from well-known MTF transfolk. Some very nice acting by Brendan Fehr and by the little sister of the main character. Couldn't figure out why Sarah Polley was in this. What her character was supposed to be about. Lots of interesting scenes and nice moments. I found it completely believable and riveting. See more Read all reviews
