Written and directed by filmmakers Adam Shell and Darren Stein, this documentary focuses on the two childhood buddies themselves and consists largely of home-movie footage of the pair and their friends. Primarily helmed by Stein, these films feature kids in their suburban California neighborhood acting out stories of various genres, include horror, war and even erotica, providing a revealing look at the youth of 1980s America, as well as at the formative process of making movies.

Darren Stein and Adam Shells' documentary invites the audience into a small and tight-knit circle of childhood friends who chronicled much of their childhood in little movies. The film works because it turns out to be a very intimate glimpse of the awkwardness and surprising insight of children --- especially when it comes to sexuality which is not yet fully understood, but recognized on many levels. Excellent and often painfully relatable.

There is a great deal going on in this "little" documentary about a little boy obsessed with becoming a filmmaker in the 1980's. Darren Stein and Adam Shell have compiled a film that touches on the many important psychological and societal twists and turns of growing up. Excellent and surprising film.
