david l Yesterday is a simplistic movie that more than compensates its lack of ambition with strong editing, directing and acting. It deals with difficult subject matter and it's fueled by excellent dialogue and intense emotions, leading to a powerful, heartwarming ending. The secondary characters are sidelined, but the main female character was superbly realized and wonderfully performed. It's a rare African movie that got an Oscar nomination. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The world is my family, and therefore, as uncomfortable as this movie made me feel due to the suffering it portrays, it needed to be seen in order to engender compassion for my fellow humans. It is one of those rare movies that will not be possible to ever forget. I only learned after seeing it that it was nominated for an Academy award for best foreign language film. It will break your heart, but isn't that what hearts are for? The love will flow.... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Good entertainment. Some smart talk and nice story. Music not bad :). Go see this you will enjoy it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved every second. It's now my new favourite move! :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Powerful and moving. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Thank you the Nelson Mandala Foundation for bringing this wonderful story alive. This is a very sensitive story about love, survival and friendship. Leleti Khumalo plays Yesterday who is courageous and a loving mother who catches AIDS from her husband. Sadly for mother and daughter he returns to die and Yesterday soldiers on looking after him while she was becoming more ill herself. She finally sees her young daughter go to school for the first time as she was determined that Beauty would have an education unlike herself. Thought provoking and well acted movie depicts the terrible living conditions. Throughout parts of Africia HIV/AIDS is still transmitted and today it is still a major health concern 91% of the World's HIV positive children live there. One million adults and children die from HIV/AIDS per year in Africa alone, this is incredibly sad !! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
