Jay A Fred Durst was very good in this. Lame storyline. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Adrian M You know it's a bad movie when the entire plot and movie is summarised in the first 30 seconds of the trailer. They didn't even need the whole trailer to summarise it. Okay, so, spoiler alert, this is about a fictional town which has a population of 436, and needs to stay at 436 no matter what. So if anyone is born then someone else needs to die, and if someone dies then someone new needs to come in. They hate strangers because if they stay the night then someone needs to die. They even have ceremonies where someone is picked to hang, which is a great honour and they smile and say thank you. And if anyone tries to leave then they get lobotomised. And that's just the townspeople. If someone moves past the townspeople then the town itself will stand in their way, by giving them fevers. In spite of all of this, the townsfolk are actually reasonably friendly. Anyway, this is about as boring as a story about a census taker might be. It was a nice idea that could have led to a good movie, only it didn't. The delivery was completely wrong. Maybe they could do a follow-up where the army comes in and tries to kill them all only for the curse to stop them and people magically survive fatal shots or whatever is going to happen. As it was, this was a boring movie. It wasn't scary at all. It was a bit worrying, but yeah not scary. It was a nice concept and a remake or sequel could potentially be good, but this one was not. I gave it 4/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/09/23 Full Review jon s It's exactly what you'd expect from a 2006 direct-to-video Canadian horror movie co-staring Fred Durst. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ronald h So ridiculous that I couldn't help but enjoy it, "Population 436" is a low budget thriller that doesn't take itself seriously. I recognized Jeremy Sisto from his solid work on TV's "Law and Order." Here, he plays Steve Kady, a census taker assigned to a tiny town whose population, for some mysterious reason, never varies. It has remained at 436 for decades. The movie steals some licks from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery," and there's a goofy, "Twilight Zone" feel to it that I'm sure is deliberate. I found it amusing. There is an assortment of strange characters in the town. They practice some kind of quasi-religious ritual that includes the word "equilibrium." You'll get the idea pretty quick. The only seemingly normal guy in town is the local cop, played well by Fred Durst. No spoilers concerning him. In fact, no spoilers at all. Just sit back and be entertained. You'll not be overwhelmed with cinematic greatness. But for some reason, this movie stuck in my head. It may stick in yours, too. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Curly was great, Durst wasn't bad, wasn't she riding a horse on the border? Somewhere between meh and bad. Sometimes you did it all and still end up sans nookie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Sisto is a census worker that visits a town that will do anything to keep their number at 436. It's a little made for tv feel - but the action at the harvest festival is a good shock. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
