James Plath Movie Metropolis There are stronger Danny Kaye films out there, but 'On the Riviera' is perhaps the best showcase for all of the performer's talents . . . and it's entertaining enough. ashley h On the Riviera is a decent film. It is about an American entertainer who impersonates a wealthy aviator. Danny Kaye and Gene Tierney give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Walter Lang did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and music. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review steve d Completely forgettable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member "If you look, you'll see the people from Paree playing On the Riviera" - this film celebrates the French post-war joie de vivre with sun and fun. Danny Kaye (with vivacious song and dance) and Gene Tierney (in her white mink and diamonds) are wonderful to watch against this backdrop. Tune in to the French accents (most of it is authentic, since there are actually some French actors: Marcel Dalio and Corinne Calvet.) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Amusing but certainly not the best Danny Kaye movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is an entertaining romp. It records one of the best dance routines showcasing Danny Kay's tremendous talent. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member + Women should take a look at the gowns in this technicolor but non-Cinemascope picture for Best Dressed on the Carpet for next year's Met Gala or Oscars. Beautiful. + Otherwise, a hard-to-follow plot that makes '50's audiences seem mighty easy to please with rather silly material. Good as a Time Capsule, but not so much as a musical ... or even a Danny Kaye vehicle. Gene Tierney should've had a longer career; it was mostly over by 1960 in spite of good performances.
