What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Hunting Party is tonally awkward: its shifts from dark satire to serious political thriller create an uneven film, despite best efforts from its game leads.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express While at times it may be glib, the film largely sticks to a grim tone of what a war as bitter as that can do to a country. Apr 29, 2019 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Amy Nicholson I.E. Weekly Ludicrous, bewildering, and largely true (at least the "most ridiculous parts" according to the film's preface), it plays like an adventure story written by Kafka Rated: A Feb 22, 2008 Full Review Toni Garcia Cinemanía (Spain) A very entertaining movie with some brilliant moments, especially in its delirious final stretch. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 11, 2020 Full Review Joshua Starnes ComingSoon.net It's not a bad story as far as it goes, and says a lot about the strange culture war journalism ... [but] no story, no matter how interesting, can't do without a little bit of the Hollywood treatment, and "The Hunting Party" suffers that in spades. steve d A tonal mess with a terrible narrative that distracts from the interesting story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I needed more action and less more talking that's what ruined the movie, and its one of the most shameless movies I ever seen. The Hunting Party is one of those annual releases that bridge the gap between the box office heavyweights of summer, and for last I did not like Jesse Eisenberg in here. So for this being a very slow film and not having the expectation that I was expecting that the trailer showed me. I give " The Hunting Party " a D. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyable and solid. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review brendan n The movie is quite good and balances the darkness with a unique style of filmmaking. This has to be one of the better Richard Gere films I have seen in quite some time. He is a gifted actor and most of the material he surrounds with is beneath him, this is one of the best roles. Gere, Howard and Eisenberg are an incredible team and once the story kicks into high gear, its hard to take your eyes away from the screen. The film might struggle with its execution, but it is a very good film for a topic that went unnoticed by the general first world public. It is true with the UN and USA about their lack of motivation to capture these war criminals. Osama Bin Laden had the heat of the world on their backs, but with Sarajevo it was a very different story. On face value it looks like an effort, but at the core they really didn't hunt these people down. Heartbreaking storyline and anchored by truth. 29/01/2019. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid movie, although tries to be more than it really is Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Frances H A very intriguing flick--I liked it and so did the audience! What happened in the former Yugoslavia was terrible, and something I never would have suspected traveling there in the Tito era. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/17 Full Review Read all reviews
