Ed Koch The Atlantic Although not a blockbuster, The Informant is an interesting, diverting film. Alec C Just because they blow the whistle, doesn't mean that they're the ones telling the truth! Mark Whitacre decides to inform on his company's price-fixing scheme, only to get entangled with some contradictions with his own credibility and his thought-process. A manic retelling of the controversial "snitch" by the grace of Matt Damon pulling off some over the top and reserved moments! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Wayne K If you've seen Logan Lucky, the 2017 crime comedy starring Channing Tatum & Adam Driver, you'll be familiar with the style Steven Soderbergh uses in The Informant, a corporate crime satire in which you're constantly forced to ask who is telling the truth and who is merely pretending to. Matt Damon gives one of his more eccentric performances as a seemingly bland and by-the-book company executive who gets caught up in an international conspiracy. The business side of the film didn't really make sense to me, as it's something I have little understanding of, but the film is more concerned with it's leads as he navigates, and exploits, that particular world. The shifting of blame keeps you engaged, and for Damon, playing a man in love with his own voice and much less smart than he thinks he is, he gets the chance to play both the underdog and the mastermind, both to success. It's bizarrely incongruous soundtrack can be confounding at times, as it often feels like the choosing of songs was done with a blindfold, but it does provide the film with a lot of levity. It's a talky screenplay, another thing which might put you off, but there's a lot here to be enjoyed, from the performances to the sneaky jokes to the cheeky jabs at corporate higher ups. Not a hidden gem, but definitely underappreciated. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review Gareth v An interesting take on a true story, but it does seem to be stuck in 2nd gear despite a strong performance from Damon. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review KEVIN C Matt Damon shines as a corporate whistleblower of sorts cooperating with the FBI who are investigating the company he works for. But there are some things he's not being completely honest with them about and as the lies begin to pile up the paranoia and schemes ramp up. Really interesting film from Steven Soderbergh with a great ensemble cast featuring Melanie Lysnsky and Scott Bakula. Damon's performance is quite frantic as the walls begin to close in. Well worth watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/30/22 Full Review Audience Member Price-fixing conspiracy drama for soda fans...
