The Bolshoi Ballet's interpretation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel is artfully captured in Russian cinematographer Margarita Pilihina's sole outing as a director. The story of the aristocratic Anna and her socially ruinous affair with the brash and fickle soldier Vronsky (Alexander Godunov) is here set to music by Rodion Shchedrin, and choreographed by Maya Plisetskaya, who also dances the lead as Anna. Psychological depth makes up for the inevitable narrative shortcuts.

Audience Member Sean acting in a very different way before Bond fame took its toll.. As much as i'm a true fan, its a pity to see a very different approach in terms of projection, and commitment to some of his post Bond roles ( with several great exceptions, of course). This is great unaffected acting that makes you ponder what sort of a course Connery's career would have taken, if Bond hadn't jettisoned him to mega-stardom. Maybe i'm been cynical.
